1. lo and behold A phrase used to indicate sth surprising or unexpected. ( What a surprise! Can you believe it! ) (humorous) used when telling a story to introduce somebody’s unexpected appearance. ◎ I walked into the restaurant and, lo and behold, there was my boss with his wife. ◎ I'd been searching for my glasses all over the house when, lo and behold, they were on my head the whole time. 2. brain fried When your brain feels so overloaded with work/stress/homework that you can't think straight and temporarily don't feel like doing anything that takes too much thinking. ◎ After taking that test, I am brain fried. 3. high-maintenance If you describe sth or someone as high-maintenance, you mean that they require a lot of attention, time, money, or effort. ◎ She was a high-maintenance girl who needed lots of attention. ◎ Although he was a nice boy, his low self-esteem made him high-maintenance.
